Sculptra is a collagen-stimulating injectable treatment designed to gradually restore facial volume and structural support by stimulating your body's own collagen. Sculptra treatments are available with Clare Hird, Independent Nurse Prescriber, across Oxford, Oxfordshire and selected areas of the Cotswolds.

Sculptra is not a filler in the traditional sense. It is an injectable collagen biostimulator — containing poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic material that has been used in medicine for decades (it's the same material as dissolvable stitches).
When injected into the deeper layers of the face, Sculptra works over months to stimulate the body's own collagen production, gradually rebuilding volume and structure that has been lost to ageing. Unlike HA fillers, the results appear slowly — but last significantly longer, typically 2 years or more.
Sculptra is ideal for patients who have noticed significant facial volume loss, particularly in the temples, cheeks and midface.
Sculptra is best suited to adults with moderate to significant facial volume loss who want a natural, gradual improvement rather than an immediate change.
Sculptra requires careful planning and precise placement. Clare typically recommends a course of 3 treatments, each 4–6 weeks apart, using a diluted product that is then massaged into the treatment area. Results develop slowly over 3–6 months as collagen production increases — this is not a treatment for someone wanting immediate change, but for those investing in long-term facial restoration. Clare provides detailed aftercare instructions including the 5-5-5 massage protocol to support the best possible outcomes.
Before any treatment is agreed, Clare carries out a thorough in-person consultation. This includes a review of your medical history, a detailed facial assessment looking at volume loss, structural support and skin quality, and an open discussion of your expectations and what Sculptra can realistically achieve.
Clare will explain how many sessions she recommends, what the treatment involves, how results develop over time, and what aftercare is required. No treatment is carried out until you are fully informed and happy to proceed. Consultations are relaxed and completely no-obligation.
Most patients require a course of 3 sessions, each spaced 4–6 weeks apart. This allows collagen to build progressively and gives Clare the opportunity to review and adjust between sessions. The number of vials used per session will depend on the degree of volume loss and the areas being treated — Clare will advise this at consultation.
Unlike HA filler, attempting to achieve the full result in a single session risks overcorrection. The gradual approach is safer and produces more natural results.
Sculptra is a well-established treatment with a good safety record when administered correctly. Some risks are unique to PLLA.
The 5-5-5 massage protocol: massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days after each session. Clare will explain this thoroughly at your appointment. Avoid UV exposure and extreme heat for 48 hours. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Results can last up to two years or more, though longevity varies between individuals depending on age, metabolism, lifestyle and the number of sessions completed. It remains one of the longest-lasting injectable treatments available.
Unlike HA filler, Sculptra results develop gradually over 3–6 months. At first you will see only the water from the dilution (which resolves in days) — the real improvement comes later as your collagen rebuilds.
Multiple sessions allow collagen to build progressively and give Clare the opportunity to assess and adjust between treatments. Trying to achieve the full result in one session risks overcorrection.
No — unlike HA filler, PLLA cannot be dissolved. This is why careful planning and a conservative approach is essential.
Yes. Clare commonly combines Sculptra with Profhilo Structura (for skin quality) and small amounts of HA filler for precise contouring.
Dermal filler (typically hyaluronic acid) adds volume directly and results are visible immediately. Sculptra works differently — it stimulates your own collagen production gradually over months. Results take longer to appear but tend to last longer, and because the improvement comes from your own collagen, it integrates with your tissue in a way that an external substance cannot replicate. The right choice depends on what your face needs structurally — Clare will advise at consultation.
There is no significant downtime. Some swelling and bruising is common in the days following treatment, and the treated area may feel tender. Most patients return to normal activity the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours and excessive heat or UV for 48 hours. The 5-5-5 massage protocol must be followed for 5 days after each session.
Sculptra is priced at £400 per vial. A course of 3 vials is available at £1,100 (saving £100). The number of vials needed depends on the degree of volume loss and areas being treated — Clare will advise at your consultation. Full pricing is available on the pricing page.
Sculptra results develop gradually rather than overnight. Clare's results page includes a real Sculptra treatment case showing progression through a course — before treatment, after the first vial, and after the second vial.
Clare is also currently undergoing her own Sculptra treatment — having decided to start at 40 for the same reasons she recommends it to patients. She has written about the decision, the science and what to expect in the Skin Journal.
Clare provides Sculptra consultations and treatments for patients across Oxford and Oxfordshire, including Witney, Woodstock, Bicester, Chipping Norton and surrounding areas.
